Our Mission Statement
We, the people of the Rossendale Circuit, are called to respond to the good news of God's love in Jesus Christ, and to live out our discipleship in worship and Mission.
The Rossendale Methodist Circuit
Within the Rossendale Circuit there are
several beautiful valleys and within each one there is a vibrant
local community. From Shawforth to Bacup, on to Stacksteads and
Newchurch, down into Rawtenstall and then north to Crawshawbooth or
westwards to Irwell Vale you will find stunning scenery and a rich
and diverse history.
From the days of the cotton mills, through the years of shoe production to the present day Rossendale has known times of wealth and financial hardship. For several years it was known as the Golden Valley but after the demise of the cotton industry and the motorways bypassing it on the east and west times were more difficult. Today, however, thanks to better transport links and the hard working people of the Valley there is a new lease of life.
Across Rossendale the Circuit serves the
people through its seven churches with one church building in each
of the main towns and villages. In addition to regular Sunday and
midweek worship there is also a wide range of activities with
something for everyone to enjoy. Messy Church and Toddler groups
attract families from across the Valley.
Our weekly Drop-ins and coffee mornings not only offer the usual refreshments and bacon butties but also opportunities for a chat and a listening ear. A monthly lunch at Newchurch acts as an appetiser for ‘Young at Heart’ who meet to enjoy a variety of speakers, quizzes and games. An Art group, film nights, social events as well as prayer and study groups mean the diary is full and often running over.
Friday night is Youth Club and every other Sunday there is a Circuit Youth group better known as Café Sundae (there is a love of ice cream!); we meet to play games and discuss how the Christian faith relates to everyday life through films, current affairs and whatever we feel needs to be given an airing. Many different groups hire church rooms and these too cover a wide range of activities: creative arts, various sports, self-help groups and specialist hobby based groups.
As an integral part of the wider church across Rossendale we seek to share the good news of Jesus Christ by being at the heart of the communities we serve. Whichever of the seven churches you visit you will be assured of a warm welcome; so whenever you get the chance please join us.
