Our Mission Statement

Longholme Methodist Church is a community of people of all ages who seek to respond to God's love by sharing the good news of Jesus. We believe we should worship God, care for one another, and our neighbours and help each other to grow in faith.

About Us

The church is concerned, and compassionate towards it's many valued older members, and is at the same time, a child-friendly church which enjoys it's younger people, and would love to have more of them coming along.
The spiritual element is high on the agenda of everything we do - indeed, it is the reason for everything we do , as we seek to serve and worship Christ together, and reach out to draw people in to the wonder of response to the gospel. Our main worship services are on Sunday mornings, when we attract a congregation of around 80 - 90 people in the main church, which is on the first floor of the building (with a lift for those who need it). We have a small choir, and enjoy having the words of our hymns (and other things) projected onto a screen. We have a special place for parents, and toddlers to sit so that the little ones can have a small space in which to play. The Sunday school consists of Primary, Junior and Young People's classes, and is held every week except for the monthly All Age Worship Services, when the children and young people stay in for the whole service rather than going downstairs after hymns, prayers and the children's address. After the service, we enjoy a time of fellowship as we can sit down for a coffee, tea and buscuits in the large School Room situated on the ground floor to the front of the other Sunday School rooms. So, as you can see from our church activities, there is much going on at Longholme to sustain, and nurture the congregation, and the local community.

Longholme Church

Longholme is a Grade 2 listed building situated in it's own grounds, 50 yards along Bacup Road (A681) from the traffic lights in Rawtenstall centre on the left hand side.
The present chapel was altered in the early 1960's, providing the building we have today. It was first used in it's present form in April 1962 to celebrate the 135th Sunday School Anniversary.
In recent years the building has had a new roof, and been refurbished for modern usage. It is used on a daily basis by a variety of community groups. The ethos of Longholme is far-reaching as we have many members who have, with their families, been connected to the church for many years. It is wonderful to see grandchildren accompanying their grandparents on a regular basis. We also have newer members, many with families and we welcome the many and diverse people who come through our doors. We really are at the heart of our community.
